On Saturday 10th October, we’re bringing our lovely community together at Milly May’s Coffee Shop for our Macmillan Coffee Morning and Brave the Shave fundraiser, from 11.30am to 3pm, with our brave shavers taking their seats from 1pm!
There’ll be coffee, cake, a raffle, tombola, a sweet and gift stall and a book sale — plenty of reasons to pop in, have a browse and stay for a cuppa.
But behind the cake and the clippers is something very close to my heart.
Since my breast cancer diagnosis in April, life has changed in ways I could never have imagined. Surgery, appointments, chemotherapy and losing my hair have all become part of a chapter I certainly didn’t choose.
Through it all, the kindness around me has meant more than I can put into words. Messages, offers of help, familiar faces popping into the café and people simply asking how I am — those little things can carry you through a very difficult day.
That’s why this fundraiser matters so much. It’s a chance to turn that kindness into support for others affected by cancer, through the work of Macmillan Cancer Support.
And then there are our wonderful Brave the Shave volunteers! Giving up your hair to help somebody else is a pretty special thing to do. I’ll be cheering you on — with a newly acquired appreciation of a chilly head and the importance of a good hat! 💚
Milly’s has always been about more than what’s on the menu. It’s about company, friendship and having somewhere you feel welcome. On 10th October, we’ll be celebrating all of that, while raising money for a cause that touches so many lives.
Whether you come for a slice of cake, buy a raffle ticket, cheer on our shavers or make a donation, you’ll be part of something lovely.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone helping, donating prizes, baking, volunteering and supporting the day. These things happen because people care — and our community has shown, time and again, just how much it does.
